As we endure rising levels of flight noise and frequent slow-running on the M1 impacting local roads, here’s a quick update on progress towards the examination of Luton Rising’s application to increase Luton Airport capacity to 32 million passengers:

The areas of disagreement raised by local councils and other concerned bodies, including LADACAN, are now available on the National Infrastructure Planning website at this link: Principal Areas of Disagreement Summary Statements – just click the link and scroll down to the list of 13 documents.

The concerns are wide-ranging, and it is encouraging to see that many of the fundamental issues raised by LADACAN are also covered by other bodies – and that Central Beds Council has been permitted to add its concerns. I believe that the robust line we took at the Inquiry last Autumn came as a shock to Luton Borough Council, and you’ll be interested to read its own list of concerns on this link: LBC areas of concern.

I’d encourage all of you who were kind enough to register opposition with the inspectorate, to download and read the statements, focusing on where and how they raise matters which tally with your own concerns. This will be useful background for when the panel of inspectors decides how these concerns will be addressed.

We now await the publication of the specific matters raised in Representations, and the panel’s view on how the issues will be dealt with as we move forward to the next stage: a preliminary meeting to set out the timetable for the six-month examination.

As ever, we’ll keep you updated on the website and via our @GoLadacan social media feeds.
