NHS 111

NHS 111
Do you know what it’s for?

The NHS 111 service has recently been launched in Hertfordshire. 111 is the number to ring if someone needs medical help fast, but it is not a 999 emergency.
Callers to the free 111 number are put through to a team of highly trained call advisers supported by experienced nurses. People calling NHS 111 will get a clinical assessment when they phone in, without the need to wait to be called back and they will be referred directly to another service as appropriate or be given information.
NHS 111 provides a new way to ensure people receive the right care, from the right person, in the right place, at the right time. They will be assessed, given advice and directed straight away to the local service that can help them best. That could be A&E, an urgent care centre, an out of hours GP, a minor injuries unit, community nurse or late opening pharmacist. People should continue to phone their GP practice to arrange routine appointments and for issues that do not require urgent attention.
